Keeping in Touch

On Yahoo Groups there are 195 participants exchanging messages.

Facebook Group

On Facebook there is a growing "Rannoch School" group active with just short of 754 (as at 16th Jan 2014) people viewing or participating.

From 1956 to 2002 thousands of pupils have passed through the school and taken up their careers, however humble or magnificent.

Speaking personally, I wish to keep in touch and have allocated a few hours a week to dedicate some words to all of you.

Simon Stoker has been in touch with me and so has Bill Jarvis. Both have given me lots of useful information and pointed me to a better direction.

My Ex-Rannoch contacts on Yahoo Groups started a few years ago and I have started to peal off the cobwebs of my distant memories. It feels as though I am climbing Schiehallion (Scottish Gaelic: Sìdh Chailleann) again, or competing in the cross crountry run.

An interesting journey ahead for all of us and I am looking forward to keeping in touch with as many of you, who are willing to help me achieve this modest goal.

Greetings, fellow Rannochians. For those of us who are on British soil this weekend, Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations are in full swing and we wish you all a very pleasant 4 day break.


Derby a historic moment

Camelot gives trainer Aidan O'Brien his fourth straight Classic with the trainer's son Joseph piloting the winner home in the Derby.

Around the UK many will be holding street parties.  On Sunday 3rd June 2012 HM Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip are cruising down the Thames from Albert Bridge to the Tower of London in the Royal Barge, surrounded by a flotilla. It will be recorded for posterity by the good ol' BBC.

The weathermen are predicting (typical bank holiday) inclement weather and I, for one, will be tucking up in-doors for some emotional "vino veritas".

Rannoch and Round Square

When I contacted my friends at Yahoo Groups and on Facebook, I was delighted by the initial response, including some viewers from their mobile phone and tablets.

New features were added this morning and any suggestions will be helpful.

A Suggestion

For those of you who did not share my Rannoch School years (1972-1975), my name is Aernout Fabius. Rannoch may not be remembered as a bastion of learning, but it offered a lot more than my school in Holland had offered be before I joined Dunrobin School in 1971.

 Both Schools were members of the Round Square, based on the principles of an insparational educator, Dr Kurt Hahn. Hahn founded Schule Schloss Salem in 1920 and was its first headmaster until 1933.

Hahn was forced to leave Germany and settled in Scotland, where he founded Gordonstoun on similar principles to the school in Salem. Later, Hahn converted to Christianity and preached in the Church of Scotland. He also started an international organisation of schools, now called the Round Square. Hahn was also involved in the foundation of the Outward Bound Organisation, Atlantic College in Wales and the wider United World College movement, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The above is just a taster, and providing I can find a few people to help me, I will say only this:

1. No point making ambitious promises I cannot keep.
2. Rannoch was a good influence on my life and I would like to share that with all those who benefited from their own time in Rannoch Moore
